not necesarily, adding all of your Str points ( Character menu) to strength wouldnt be a good idea, but yet it can be. if you put all of your stat points on str and not int, then you will have a greatly low MP. resulting in more MP pots and lack of magical abilities. though at being at a low level, that really wouldnt matter considering the magic attacks are 150 MP and below. but for later levels, such as about 30+ when you start getting nukes (which i dont know why i said that since you want to be pure str
i have a pure str bow and a pure int spear, both are working GREAT for me, but i must say that i fancy my str/bow character more considering she has more HP and because of the crits.
when you are pure str = more HP, higher crit, you hit harder without imbue (lightning, fire, cold) etc ...
when you are pure int = more MP, more magical damage, etc ...
also, if you wanted help with these kind of topics, there is an amazing tool called the "Search" button
but yes, pure str would be a good route to go for a new beginner and a reat build to have (build = characters str/int and skills they are using: e.g. = my pure str/bow/fire/force character is my characters build) i really hope this helps, if i made any mistakes or any ad-ons would like to be put, im sure more people will post here and help
alright man, good luck!
