a question about defense buffs

at the nukers guide it says
Fire:
Fire Protection Series (magic defense +)
OR
Ice:
Frost Guard Series (physical defense +)
i cant use both together?

You can use both.

so why in the guide u "suggest" to put only 1 of the selected

so again, why in the nuker guide u suggest to put only one of the selected? why not both?
