Flame Wave Series: 2nd Book Question

Just a quick question about this book. I know the first book is a straight forward single target attack, and the third book is an area of effect that hits x amount of targets, but what is the second book exactly? In the skill description it says that it penetrates, but it's still not 100% clear to me.

It shoots like the first one, except anything within a few feet of the path of the nuke will get hit for reduced damage.

It is like the first nuke but anything it hits while going towards the monster will get splashed and anything BEHIND as well as long as it's the same line/path for up to 3 monsters. Good times were had killing two shades at once that way

the AOE for the second book acts the same way with a glaivers flying dragon attack. it can aggro a mob between you and your main target and even a mob just behind your char..
