Question about the Defense Tools: Armor,Protector,Garment

I was reading some of the previous forums and discovered that you can switch Protector Types in the game. Is this true? I checked with the website and it says that Protector can wear Armor as well but not Garment. Im getting REALLY confused now because right now I have a Blade/pure str character,with Garment, which I am proud of, but Im thinking about making a spear character or glaive and later on a sword and maybe a bow. Maybe. So I would really like to know which armor is best suited for spear. And if it is true that you can switch armors then how is it possible and when can you do it?

If you want to switch from garment to protector or armor, just take off everything and then put on what you want.
