I'm gonna make a pure int nuker (fire and lightning) but I've read different things on which weapon to use. Some guides say spear, some say sword. What's the difference between those two and what are the benefits?

spear PVE, sword and shield is ok at PVE, bt better than spear at PVP since u can have extra defence

so in which one should i put my skill points?

i say get both if u have the skill points

As im sure you know, your key to high damage is high magic attack on a weapon so....

A spear has the highest magic damage in general

however

A sword has lower Magic Dam in general, But some consider it superior because you can use a shield with a sword

Like Lance said, if you do not want to fight many people and just fight mobs then pick spear, but if you wish to job a lot and PvP, pick sword and shield for the blocking, totally upto you though, just a few thoughts for ya

A sword+shield keeps you longer alive, while only doing a little less damage (so very handy for PvP)
However grinding is about the speed at which you kill mobs, and well spear just kills faster ;p


oh and did you knew.. you don´t have to stick with 1 weapon the entire game , but can actually switch when you want to *hint*

Since you're pure INT, unless you're going to invest into some very nice armor, I would eventually aim for sword+shield at the higher lvls (upper 30s). The extra defense helps a lot and could save you a lot of deaths. However, using a spear from lvl 30 until then will help you lvl faster.

Actually, I'd opt for spear until you hit the caves. At that point, due to the proximity of the mobs, you're often fighting several at once, especially if you use large AOE nukes. With s/s you can even purposely aggro several mobs then kill them all at once. If you're a pure int, you'll die if you try this with spear.

By the way, I use spear but I'm hybrid so aggroing several mobs nets me exp faster than killing one by one.
