Noobie Questions: Magic Attack or Weapon Attack Better?

I'm not sure how I should allocate my stat points, should I put them in strength or Intelligence? What is more advantageous?
There are really three choices:
pure STR - very very high HP, middling damage [blades, glaives]
pure INT - best damage, but low HP [spears, swords]
hybrids - either STR heavy with some int [not popular, I can't see any advantages to this] or INT heavy with a bit of STR [so you don't die as quickly, pure INT is very fragile]
I'd say pure STR to start off, since 1-30 as pure int is harder than with pure str. It's really your choice though.
