Any Saving Grace at All for Ice-tree (offenisve skills)?

It's kinda dismaying how ice in this game is treated badly, especially with the advent of status-reducing tablets. For some reason Ice simply wont cut it.
Lowest damage nukes and imbues, and there's some wonder as to the cost of mana pots (i.e. more mana to achieve same damage).
For me especially it seems a bit of a wierd thing to digest, being a DiabloII fanatic for some five years and knowing the potency of ice spells.
In any case, is there any saving grace for ice spells? For one, the imbues and nukes look hella-cool and are awesome to watch... and plus there's the roleplay aspect. I decided to try a heavy int spear-woman named AyanamiRei, and to those of you who know of the anime series, you'd understand why she's int-heavy and uses a spear, heheh.
Anyway, to coincide with her personality, it'd be most fitting to be ice-heavy or at least uses ice a little... but with the current mechanics of the game i dont think that's much of an option...
what do you guys think??
