Quick low level archer question

Post by NeoSeiryuu »

I'm about to pick up an elemental imbue but i've done searches and theres alot of controversy between the ice and fire imbue. The main point i've been able to see is that fire is more attack oriented and much better for pvp while ice is more defence and sucks for pvp (and lots of ppl delvel ice later on).

But for me, i'm low level and by that i mean in the teens. I'm not really thinking about pvp too much. Mainly, i'm focusing and leveling, sp farming, quests (so probably hunting monsters at or above my level), and just having fun. I was wondering in that aspect, which element would suit me more?

I say ice, cause it can look cool. If you just want to have fun, and don't give so much about PVP, you should pick ice. Remember tho, you'll pick a job someday.

Sorry but you're giving him the wrong info

To be an effective archer I would prefer ICE as a main element.

Why?

Ice Imbue has 25% freeze probability

Ice Imbue has forst bite (slows down the enemy) probaility

For archers the arrow combos hits so fast that you have much more freeze chances then even the bladers (who uses fast chain skills)

I have fought many in PvP, ice is the best for archers hands down

Yesterday I fought a fire archer lvl 62 (Im lvl 59) and killed him. Bara was there witnetsing this all. And the lvl 62 fire archer had a better bow and armor. I froze him and crit him for the kill

More proof?

One silkroadtavern a lvl 70 name SUperfox went to KoreanSRo and saw a level 90 str ice archer 1 shot crit a lvl 90 int nuker

In the Korean Tournament the winner is a Ice Strength Archer

Nam_Tuan - Fully Farmed Str/Fire/Glavier LvL 71*lvling*

I think it really depends of the strength of the mob. If you can kill them in 3 shots (about the average # before they are in melee range) than use fire. If they need more than 3 then use ice to freeze or slow them.

FWIW My full int to be nuker is using bow until lvl 30. Start with bow then switch to spear when in range. Once I get nuke then the lvl 1 anti-devil and all levels go bye bye.

I keep my fire and cold imbues up to date. I find cold better for glaive early on in PvM and in PvP. I'm saving fire for PvM later on.

Yup use both. Fire for when you can kill in 3 or 4 shots and ice for when you need more.

Hi,

I'd take fire, in case you're _not_ pure STR or mainly PvP.

Why? Ice imbue freezes. Fine! But just sometimes - 25% chance for frostbite, 5% for freeze. :(
And it does few damage, compared to fire.

Being a pure STR this wouldn't matter because your mag. damage is low anyway - you kill with bow skills. But beeing anything other (INT or hybrid) this hurts: You really want the additional damage from imbue!

And there are much better choices to slow mobs down: Cold wave arrest has 100% chance to frostbite, is fast, cheap and lasts (at Lvl 3 = M_Lvl 18) 5.6 secs, a full imbue.

In high lvl pvp with auto pill this may not be enough; in my small scale pvp (L27) it worked fine: they have to pill my cold wave arrest (Lvl 4, 6.2 secs, before every imbue) and my constant burning from fire imbue: They can't swallow this fast, most were frostbitten at least half of the time. Before they went down. ;-)))

I'm bow hybrid and started with Ice, but dropped it at about lvl 20 - fire does this much more damage, and there are better ways to freeze mobs. IMHO.

As I said, this is the opinion of a Lvl 27 bow hybrid. Mostly thieving (10% to Lvl3), constantly chased around by traders, hunters and NPC thieves (my favorite grinding mobs), happily relaxing in earth ghost country and in taoists ravine. Other styles of play may need other skills.

Have fun!
Picking up everything that doesn't have a trader attached ...

well i am a pure str archer so the fire doesn't significantly outdamage the ice but i think i will probably keep both

Just keep cold until lvl 20 or something. Just dont max it. Will also save you a lot of pots = more gold, which is a lot of help in the beginning of the game. Later on youre going to regret going with ice when you cant seem to kill anything because of the low dmg. Bows already do very low dmg, why make it worse?

Furthermore you can pot away ice and if you are really serious about pwning ice players you can get a jewel freeze reduce set, combined with the fire shield skill (which you can have without being a blade/sword of course), you can get up to 100% resistance. Guess what? Ice is useless then. Its good against monsters, but later on when hitting lvl 40 maybe, youre going to do jobs at a serious lvl. And then youre gonna want your build to be as strong as possible (pvp minded)

Just my 5 cents, let the flame begin 8)
