Since we get access to all 3 force lines (ie both pdef and mdef buffs), which armor type would be better? I'm leaning towards protectors, but the extra pdef on heavy is making me hesitate...

From experience, armor doesn't make much diff. Normal 11d +5 garms I took about 10k dmg from a dd. Nova +5, nova +10, nova +7 armor set vs warrior and I took 9k dmg from a dd. Hence, I was like fck that shit, garms ftw.

Besides, if you get "raped" by all str chars, then you must be doing something wrong anyways. Rogue/bard warrior/bard and bow all crumple insanely fast to int chars.

lol armor makes loads of a diff, i say NEVER garm. either armor or LA (protector).

especially as a pure int. i had a pure int bow that was raped when it was wearing garms but the sec i switched to armor i rocked everyone.

That's probably because it was a pure int bow... That's the only pure int build I see that wears armor. Spear usually has on prot and s/s usually has garms. For some reason that's just how it usually ends up. Like I said, I went from shitty garms to super pimped nova armor back in 11d cap and I didn't notice jack.

lol an int with garm is garbage, i dont even know why people use armor or garm. Protector is the way to go in almost any situation.

Bro, i never mentioned a armor set. IMO a INT char must have at least LA / Protector if he wants to hold up against an STR char, Depends on hes buffs too off course but still.

Vs a Warrior/Cleric that is Pure Phy Dmg. With that in mind, an ARMOR set is best vs that player. I tested it out and saw barely any real difference. Normal garms vs nova +7 +10 armor, but the dmg wasn't really reduced that much. If there isn't that much of a dmg reduction in an armor set, a protector set will have even less armor reduction. This is a chinese char we're talking about, not euro where cleric has boosted defense from wearing LA.
