Spear/Lightning- Shoul i go partial Ice

Im goinmg for an almost full int spear with lightning, and i was wondering if going into ice to get ice river/frost nova will help with snaring/kiting in duels against pure str (thinking of a nuke, then freeze, then run and nuke again tactic)? Is it worth the SP and more importantly does it work?

Also, later on in PvP, is mana conservation really needed? Apparently nukes are 2 hit kills, and id have thought the higher defense from armour against full str builds would be better? Also you can always use pots to restore your mana, but pots wont stop you from being one hitted by a str glaive.

as an int hybrid like you're planning, i have this advice:

you're a hybrid. that means the name of the game is diversity. the more things you have at your disposal, the bigger your arsenal of attacks, the more likely you are to win a fight. my lvl39 char has her masteries for spear, fire, and lightning ALL at lvl34, and her force at lvl32. take enough ranks in EACH force to get its buffs. spend the extra 30 or so SP and get your ice ball freezer thing, it defintiely helps. as a hybrid, you'll NEVER do as much nuke dmg as a full int, so that extra few secs you get from freezing an opponent could mean you get an extra hit in, thus getting you the win, or it may give you an extra second to pot, saving your life.

as far as mana goes, i use an average of 2x as many mana pots as hp pots each time i go out. i'll buy 200 HP and 400 MP per go. (these are large pots, Hotan style, baby ;) i wear protector, which gives me a 10% bonus to mp consumption, but at the same time gives me a bit more physical dmg reduction than garment would (though less dmg reduction and higher mp consumption). this can also mean the difference in a battle vs a pure strength user. you have to realize, though, that PvP is only gonna be about 10% of your total playing time. the rest of the time, you're gona be nuking mobs instead. even as strong as my nukes are (lvl3 in both fire and light), i can seldom kill a white mob w/ one nuke. it usually takes a nuke and a flying dragon spear. that's about 800+ mp per kill. at lvl39, i have about 3200 mp, meaning i have to pot every 4 kills or less. mp consumption IS a big deal, maybe the biggest deal, a nuker deals with.

after all, the whole point here is to kill things BEFORE they get to you, right? armor's phys dmg reduction bonus doesn't matter if the mob never gets a chance to unload ;)

I heard Babels first 60 went pure INT with SPEAR and LIGHTNING and of course, nuke.

Killing most mobs in 1-2 hits, he easily climbed his way to the top, as the winner.

However... you can only assume he was lonely as hell - LOL doing every quest by himself.

But hey .... Less people to KS, right?

Level 42 hybrid Int lightning spear Nukey kapwn sunnava... y'know me

I have masteries up in ice, for the defence buff (aiming for book two now, book 3 a lot later) and i use the lil crappy blast that slows stuff, generally for slowing down pkers, picking a mob out of a bunch etc.


oh, and freezing Moogie in PvP so I have a chance xD

Ok, thanks for putting that into perspective for me. I may try out using protector however. Lastly, which spell in ice is best if you are aiming to kite an opponant ( a fast casting time and good chance of proc is what im looking for here)
