close any useless processes in the task manager(crtl+alt+del). For example spoolsv.exe i'm pretty sure is your printer driver and as long as you don't use your printer before you restart your computer you should be find for closing it(Although DO NOT SHUT DOWN ANY svchost.exe OR explorer.exe)! Also don't use unnecessary programs while playing SRO like x-fire, or maybe TS2/Ventrilo.

If you want you can also shut down some start up processes. Go to Start Menu < Run < msconfig < startup tab, and shut down any programs you don't want your computer to load went it boots up. For ex. MSN Messenger.

Heres something else very useless to terminate lag. Go to Control Panel < System < Advanced tab < Performance Setting < Visual Effects, check off the "Adjust for best performance" option (yes this will change quiet a lot of things to do with your desktop). Now you can go to the next tab over "Advanced tab" and at the bottom you will see "Virtual Memory" and depending on your RAM you can adjust it. I have 1gb of RAM, so it recommends for me to put it at 1500mb, but i doubled mine to around 3000mb. you can try that but it will overflow into one of your drivers from my understanding if you do double the recommended.

Now i know this is a lot to take in right now but if you need anymore help just post again :D .

ummm... if that existed i'm sure everyone would have that program. you could also do a disk cleaning, defragment, and get rid of old program of file you do use in the hard drive that SRO is in.

Good ideas Black, but I think thats taking it a little far.

The easiest thing I've ever found to make SRO run smoother (at least on my other, older comp) is to put shadows to circles, water to 'no reflection' and turn off bloom and lens flare.

The shadows make the biggest change, made it so much smoother.

Try that jordy, let us know how it goes.

i always try and get the right balance with visual graphics like texture detail etc. i have at mid and i turn shadows of completly and water effects and i only lag in realy crowded areas now when server is full so its not bad also it can be things like leaving ur pc running too long can even effect sumtimes.

also thats a piont try playing at times were it not crowded lik late at night or early morning, like usuly dont even try to get on unless it like 8pm and play for 3-4 hours.

what are you talking about, because of the massive bulk of people from the middle east and europe that play the servers are always gonna be crowded 24/7. lag gonna be there like it or not.

You can try and turn off a lot of visual effects and it will certainly REDUCE your lag. Noise and disturbance on your network or with your internetconnection are the main causes for lag so you really can't help it. You even get lag with fiber...

Hope this clears it up a bit :-)

EDIT : SRO servers are the culprit too sometimes (if not mostly)

Could you post your system specs and a screenshot of your processes list please.
