Let the pc look like it's not running

How can I let the pc look like it's not running? So I can mislead my parents
So how do I shut the screen off, but not with the button, but let the screen look black

put it in stand by, it will seem as if it is off.

Try using "Sleep". My older PC had a button for it on the keyboard, but my new one has the option in the shut down menu. But my new PC is Vista so I dunno...

you can also put your computer in hibernation, although i don't really know how that function works but it shuts down most of the processes.

Stand By shuts off the hard drive, video card, etc... and keeps the memory active
so you can resume what you were doing quickly.

Hibernation writes the contents of the memory to the hard drive so that you can completely shut
down the computer but still resume what you were doing.

Both will either close silkroad or disconnect you from the server.

My friend told me you can do sleep or w/e and it will basically turn off the computer but keep every memory saved, he also said to have some extra memory space before you do this procedure since it takes space to save some memory. best of luck.

can't you just go to control panel and tell the computer when it goes into sleep/hibernation mode to not shut down the hard drive or video card?
