Internet disconnection problems

So lately i have been having problems where my internet cuts out for about 5-6 seconds. Sometimes it occurs every hour or so and sometimes ( like this morning when i was trying to grind ) it cuts out every 2 minutes..
I have tried switching between wireless and cable connection set ups, between cat 6 and cat 5 cable, resetting the modem, rebooting the pc blah blah blah.
So if anyone knows a way to fix this, or a possible idea to what would be causing it, it would be greatly appreciated if someone could help out. I am yet to call my isp because i just know i will be put on hold for an hour or so ( telstra

). Though if the problem doesn't get solved i dont have too much choice.
Any replies would be greatly welcomed.

Three engineers were traveling on a deserted stretch of road when their car broke down.
The chemical engineer got out, opened the hood and started his analysis.
The electrical engineer started his diagnostic by connecting his portable test equipment.
The Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer stayed in the passenger seat and with a vacant look in his eye began playing with the electric control, rolling all four windows up and down.
"WTH?", both of his friends exchanged puzzled glances before they asked their friend,
"What are you doing??The microsoft engineer replied,
"All I know is to close windows."__________________________
Q
UESTION: Have you power cycled your modem and router?
I'm sure you've thought of this but power all down (everything on your home net), wait minimum 5 mins, then bring them back online - first would be router, then modem, then PC.
Elsewise, yes - bite the bullet, call your ISP and they'll tell you to do the same thing all over again. Hopefully you'll get a good tech, it can happen. It's doubtful but it can.

This sounds like a router problem... are you using a router? If so, it sounds like you either have too many connections on a router, a shitty router, or, most likely, outdated firmware (or all of the above).

Tried that a few times, no results. I have been putting off calling my ISP but today is the day i have to i suppose.

Im using a wireless router only connected to the modem and computer. Since it occurs both when i have the router set up and when i don't have the router set up i doubt thats the problem.
(also its a brand new router which to my knowledge is pretty good, so it would be quite weird for the router to be faulty after a month of having it )
EDITI got pissed off and ended up fixing it. In the end one of the phone lines was split and causing the net to cut out more and more as time went on. Problem fixed.
