Horrible Freezing Problem (FIXED...kinda)

FIXED: Lots of people said it was a video card problem, it was. The video card worked with other higher graphic games perfectly, just not with SRO. I switched to the crappy built in video card and now SRO runs perfect... :?

When I play Silkroad it keeps freezing for 30 seconds to 1 minute (Happens every 2 minutes or so and sometimes multiple times in a row) and then sometimes the graphics end up extremely messed up(Changing resolution fixes the graphics)

Image

When it is lagging the hard drive light doesn't go on and it doesn't make any weird noises.

I got the most recent driver for my video card and I am able to play games like Battlefield 2142 and Crysis with no lag, its only Silkroad that I have a problem with. I changed all the graphic settings around and the lag is still there.

Any ideas? I'm quiting until I fix it because all combat is impossible while this happens.

Edit: I don't bot and have never botted, when I was searching for similar problems it was mostly people having freezing problems while running a bot.

Could u post ur system specs?

1/ first guess, messed up driver (try reinstalling the most recent driver)
2/ if 1/ doesn't work, try reinstalling sro; a file could have been corrupted
3/ I'll give more options as soon as you post ur specs

This guide will fix your problem. I swear i must seriously ask to get this stickyed, i've posted this more than 15 times.

tedtwilliger wrote:I use to freeze every time i went to town, or i use to get the ??? error a lot. So what i did is the following ( screenshots included ) and it solved my problems. Although I typed this all myself I got the info from the technical help section, where you should of gone first.

First of all to fix those pesky dc errors, we do the following. Go into the silkroad folder in the program files, then for each of the four .exe's right click and go to properties. Whilst in properties go to compatibility, and change the compatibility mode to windows 98/me.

Image

Now do this for each of the four .exe’s They are labeled sro_client, replacer, silkroad and SilkErrSender

Now that should hopefully fix the ??? errors, though i chose to do this next step as well as it fixes problems where my computer just freezes when in town. Note the fact that this must be done every time you load up your client. So its best to do it at the character selection screen, as theres no point doing it if your client closes when you fail to log in on the first attempt.

Now when your client is all nice and loaded up, hit the windows key and proceed to use the crtl alt del combination. When at this screen, right click on the sro_client and click on go to process.

Image

Now from here, right click on sro_client.exe, then go to priority, then set it to high as opposed to normal

Image

Now if you have a dual core computer, like myself, you can also set the affinity so it runs off one as opposed to 2. I don’t know the logic behind it, but it fixed my problem. So now once again right click on the sro_client exe and go to Set Affinity, it should be right below the set priority option. From here, click the boxes so just the 1st cpu is clicked.

Image

Now you must do this each and every time you open the client, but it has been a perfect solution for me. I hope it works for you too.

p.s If theres any mistakes someone please say so and ill fix them. Im very tired so i did this without paying too much attention >.<

Thanks for the try, but it didn't work :(

I know I did it right because I had to change compatibility to fix a 2142 glitch and I set process higher than normal a lot.

hmm in that case im not too sure, my guide seems to fix most things.

If you have a friend who has a graphics card compatible with your motherboard, install it and try to load it up then. If it works you can locate the problem being the graphics card. If not, you can rule that out.

Just try things like that, a bit of trial and error until you can narrow your options down a bit. Sorry i cant offer any real help.

I have a similar problem...

Image

I dont overclock, nor are my drivers out of date. I understand changing the compatibility to 98/me but I really think thats just a quick fix, and having to do it every time you reload SRO, especially when you have to restart it SO MANY TIMES for disconnects...any other ideas?

list your computer specs and temps.
You can check your temps using a program called speedfan.

Well its not a hardware problem because all other games run perfectly.

Its getting worse and worse... now it takes me like 5 minutes to log in because it constantly freezes while I'm typing and I only get to play for 3 seconds then it freezes for a minute and keeps repeating.

I doubt anyone will know a fix for mine :x

EDIT: I think I might make a video even though it should be pretty easy to understand whats happening.

Im not having exactly the same problem you are rocker...Mine is more of a sporadic graphic glitch that will either happen or not when I start the game and if it does happen, will repeat...But its not everytime.

This looks like a compatibility issue, the only thing I think you should do is try another version of windows xp. Try it and see if it works.
