Speeding Up CPU Performance

Is there any way up speeding up my CPU? I know the obvious stuff like increasing RAM and running the defragment scans etc, but ive done all these and they havn't really helped. It usually takes me 30mins to load the SRO Client, and 20% of the time it crashes within 20seconds of me logging in. Is there any scans i can run to increase performance, or any other way (without having to buy it because its not my PC)?

Thanks in advance.

you need more RAM. And what computer are you using, desktop or laptop?

Honestly, theres something else that is seriously wrong if it takes 30 min to load SRO.

Desktop. Well, usually on a good day it takes 15minutes to load, however at night time, it can take up to 30minutes, sometimes more.

Would changing the resolution make it less laggy?

1) run virus scan
2) run a spyware scan
3) defragment your computer- go to start, programs, accesories, system tools , then click on disk defragment, that sped my computer by 20%!
4) delete all the files you dont need
5) you have to clean ur windows registry , but you cant do that by urself because you might mess us ur computer, so i suggest downloading a program that will clean it for u, i suggest http://www.errorsweeper.com , its $19.99, but after using it made my computer faster about 60%, or if you dont want to spend money you can download wise registery cleaner from http://www.wisecleaner.com, after doing this step your computer will no longer crash or be slow
6) download the disk cleaner also from http://www.wisecleaner.com and run, this will find all the bad folders and files and will delete this.

hope this helps!

Ok thanks. Il run the defragment scan (even though ive done one not so long ago) and the registery cleaner and disk cleaner now. Il tell you if works or not.

Make sure you don't have a bunch of useless shit running.
I would highly recommend getting at least 1gb+ ram for silkroad.

How about setting the priority to high?

( ctrl + alt + del, right click on sro --> go to process. Right click again --> set prioity --> high or real time )

That may help out, but something does seem very weird.

Are you physically not able to upgrade it or are you just broke?
You can get 1gb of ddr400 for $25 or so.

lol, im not broke, but its just not my computer, although I could spend a little on it if theres anything out there thats cheap, and will significantly speed it up...any suggestions?

how old is your desktop? If its so old that you take 20 min just to load SRO, you need to get a new computer.

And hurry and do a virus scan or something, there must be a keylogger or something thats slowing the whole system.

Sorry to say it but that might be your best bet if you've got malware.

Do you have any file sharing apps installed (like LimeWire) that could be running in the background?

How do other games load/run compared to SRO?

Im pretty sure i dont have any keyloggers. I run 2 different virus scans atleast twice a week.

Pretty much everything runs slow. Even just running MSN Messenger can freeze my screen.

And how do i reinstall Windows? Will I loose everything? Can I make a backup? How long will it take?

Thanks

What's ur graphics card. Depending on the type, it can often slow down or speed up your loading time. Of course you also said that it's taking you awhile to load msn mssnger... My guess is go find some free virus scans and scan your computer. Avast, AVG, any of those. Scan for virus and spyware. You'll be amazed what free scanners can catch and what expensive payed for miss. Of course it goes vice-versa as well. I had Norton fully updated and it couldn't find the virus on my comp. Had to use avg to get rid of it.

If your comp is still clean, you might have too much random stuff on it. Delete the unecessary stuff. And once again, post your graphics card.

I also have Norton fully updated, as well as Windows Defender which is free. I dont think its because theres too much stuff on it because a few weeks ago i deleted 17GBs of music, and it didnt improve anything. Also, how do i find the properties of my Graphics Card?

Since ur using XP, just run dxdiag.exe. Then click on graphics or display tab. Should tell you What kind of graphics card you're using. As for installing windows. You're computer should have come with backup cd's that you can use to re-install windows. If not look up your computer's website.

And Yes, re-installing windows will wipe out all your stuff so back it up first. Either on a Flash drive, or a external hard drive. The re-installation will take prob about 2 hours or so. Gets boring so have a tv nearby.

Oh, and IMHO, Don't rely too much on Norton, and def not windows defender.... that's just shit from a cow's... nm

Anyways, go download A free version of AVG and Avast!. Great free samples and good to run when your computer is strangely slow.

If running sro slows down everything in your computer then you definetely need more ram. Wow it takes 30 minutes just to run sro?
My computer takes only 10 - 15 seconds to run the whole game.

Hmm that's def one of the older Nvidia cards. 64MB. I hope that's dedicated... If not...

Hmm yeah if that's your total graphics memory, your graphics card is def not helping load the game. Odds are your computer is too old and is having trouble loading SRO. My suggestion... back up everything you want... MAKE SURE YOU GOT EVERYTHING... than just do a re-install of windows and wipe everything. than ONLY install the stuff you really need. Save other stuff externally...

Or you could upgrade your graphics card and hard drive if you have the money. My old graphics card was similar to yours and it also took awhile to load the first time. Upwards of 10 mins or so. 30 is a bit too much.

I recommend scanning with several anti-virus and spyware scanners just to be safe. If you do the memory wipe than that should take care of any virus you have. If you don't wanna do that, than I think you either have WAYYY too much stuff on your computer or you def have some kind of virus.

Ok, so ive decided to buy 500GB of external RAM (Not yet bought it but I will do if you guys say this will make a difference), and save everything externally, leaving nothing on my PC. I will then re-install Windows.

Or

I could buy 1GB of ddr400 Memory, however I wouldn't know how to fix it to the PC

Or

I could do both, it was my birthday a few days ago so i have a few bob to spend :)

Or

You got any better suggestions, besides buying a new computer altogether.

Thanks

look there is only one solution to your problem.

Buy RAM.. 500 minimum and 1Gb would be very nice.

I will tell you in numbers and hope it clears some things.

You have 512 mb of RAM now
Win XP use from 200 - 300 RAM at all times
Silkroad online use from 300 - 600 RAM (depends on options)

So you do the math now. Thats why your pc runs slow whatever you
try to do. Every program, even web browsers eat RAM.

My suggestion is for you to buy 1Gb more and you dont have to worry
anymore. But 500 is minimum.
