WTF, every damn time i go to hotan the game just closes! I leave hotan west gate finally and just as i leave the gate/......it just closes again! Its either a "stopped responding" message, or a "??????????????????????????" message! This never happened before the bot banning update came!

It happens to me too, it pisses me off because sometimes I die, a lot of time wasted. Best thing I would try is to reinstall or reupdate the client.

I kind of have to agree with you. I've been getting a lot of D/C lately for no reason and espically in Hotan/Towns.

Try this if your pc has duel or quad cores.

Fixed a lot of peoples crashes.

Set affinity to just one CPU if you have dual core.

Taskman, processes, right-click SRO, set affinity, uncheck one CPU.

During the time of the bot ban there was no update. It was just data backups. No until we got the fur coats and Super Prems. Was there an update to the version. Try updating your drivers and or getting more ram. Maybe also test you internet connection. Make sure there isnt packet loss or noise on the line. It isnt ALWAYS jms fault for all the wrongs in the world :/

i dont need more ram, have driver issues or poor internet. Ive been playing sro for over 2 years and never had any problems such as these until recently. I get pissed off cus im in a share pt and i cannot stay in that pt when i repot or leave via west gate.....I cant even stall afk in hotan anymore!

??? Errors usually happen with .pk2 mistakes and when the client can't handle the abundance of things to load, such as in Hotan. Happens a lot to a lot of people. Don't know what to say though cuz I never fixed it myself.

cant be pk2 as i dont have any pk2 edits done. And the ???????? happen in hotan usually when im talking in chat

I use to freeze every time i went to town, or i use to get the ??? error a lot. So what i did is the following ( screenshots included ) and it solved my problems. Although I typed this all myself I got the info from the technical help section, where you should of gone first.

First of all to fix those pesky dc errors, we do the following. Go into the silkroad folder in the program files, then for each of the four .exe's right click and go to properties. Whilst in properties go to compatibility, and change the compatibility mode to windows 98/me.



Now do this for each of the four .exe’s They are labeled sro_client, replacer, silkroad and SilkErrSender

Now that should hopefully fix the ??? errors, though i chose to do this next step as well as it fixes problems where my computer just freezes when in town. Note the fact that this must be done every time you load up your client. So its best to do it at the character selection screen, as theres no point doing it if your client closes when you fail to log in on the first attempt.

Now when your client is all nice and loaded up, hit the windows key and proceed to use the crtl alt del combination. When at this screen, right click on the sro_client and click on go to process.



Now from here, right click on sro_client.exe, then go to priority, then set it to high as opposed to normal



Now if you have a dual core computer, like myself, you can also set the affinity so it runs off one as opposed to 2. I don’t know the logic behind it, but it fixed my problem. So now once again right click on the sro_client exe and go to Set Affinity, it should be right below the set priority option. From here, click the boxes so just the 1st cpu is clicked.



Now you must do this each and every time you open the client, but it has been a perfect solution for me. I hope it works for you too.

p.s If theres any mistakes someone please say so and ill fix them. Im very tired so i did this without paying too much attention >.<

Ive been getting DC'ed back to back over and over >.>.

I think i'll take a break until they fix this bug. Not sure tho. Im almost 40 on my Warlock so im excited.

I can't stall anymore, I crash every time, and even when i'm just standing around town its gotten worse lately, I never use to get the error that much =x.

Just changing the compatibility really fixes the ??? error? >.>

It did for me DJ. I would like to hear peoples own experiences with trying the methods i wrote out, because by doing both of this things ( and also with just the cpu settings as well ) it has worked perfectly for me.

If it comes to help enough people out it really should be stickied, with the increasing amount of people that are having this problem.

Well after I tried it, I got on agian and stalled normally again, and havent crashed since I posted that ;d.

Well we did this for my husband computer and so far so good, 15 minutes and no d/c'ing!! He has been going back and forth between Hotan and Samarkand. He hasn't been able to make it over 10 min in hotan with out getting d/c'd lately! Thank you so much for this help!!!!!!!!!!

I did too randomly earlier, seems to not help =/

One of my guildmates was getting crashes like this, he tried the affinity mask with no luck, but ended up fixing it by:

-system restore back to BEFORE he installed the new SRO client
-reinstalled client plus all updates (don't run the game yet!)
-reinstalled vid drivers plus Directx latest version.

He says he hasn't crashed for hours.

Your mileage may vary.

My experience so far. "Set affinity" fixed the ?????? Error, but my main problem right now is the game freezing and "not responding" in task manager.

I have a lot less/none of those errors at night (CET), but it drastically increases at daytime. Right now the game freezes everytime I hit the start button in the char select screen (about 4times in a row, stopped trying then).

Anyone got a solution for the "not responding" error?

I once tried to set sro_client to high priority, but as soon as i set it, all my pc freeze. I think some windows shells got no CPU to work such as user32.dll, shell32.dll >_>

CPU affinity has solved my crash problems wonderfully; haven't had a crash in weeks now.
