Hi!
I have read, that ??? Error comes because of Videocard driver's or directX or whatever... why?
Bullsh*t!!!!

Ok, here's what you should do!
1)Go to you're Silkroad folder
2)There is "SilkErrSender.exe"
3)Delete it!
4)Start Silkroad and have fun!
Don't forget to push the "Thanks" button, if i helped you!

I updated videocard drivers and installed windows updates but nothing, still got that ??? error and after deleting SilkErrSender.exe hav'nt got that error anymore
My solution:

i get that sometimes but usually it just shuts off out of random. or will freeze.. any ideas?

what's you're FPS in game? try with lower graphics...
You probably need more than 1Gb or RAM

Does it do it in any other 3-d application that requires the video card?
Is sound enabled or disabled?
Is the room you're in hot?
PC cleaned out?
Freezing video may be video RAM or heat problems, there's all kinds of stuff it could be. It might even be some other application in the background interfering with SRO.
Try a clean slate first. As cpinney says, first update video drivers following manufacturer's recommendations (sometimes they want you to go back to VGA or basic video), then update and patch XP (don't do those you don't need), then uninstall SRO, make sure it's clean, reboot, redownload, and reinstall. Defragging, although it's over-recommended, wouldn't hurt (use 3rd party, MS defragger is ok, but not great), and keeping your antivirus current and your system free of spyware/adcrap/rootkits is always a good idea.
Honestly, need more info before giving out more than just general advice.

Whats you're GPU temperature; clean you're PC from dust(
fan's
) ; if you're GPU temperature is above ~65c-70c then u need to add some extra fan's
