Window 4: (the classic, I have got this plenty 'o times, but have come to learn its just a fact of silkroad life...)

I have got the ?????? error plenty, but never before the game even started....

BTW I have most recent nvidia drivers, 84.21

Seems that your drivers aren't working correctly.

Try reinstalling it.

Go to Start Menu -> Run
Type "dxdiag" without the quotation marks and press Enter
Go to the Display tab and test Direct3D
If all three tests fail, congratulations, you probably have the same problem I do. Try reinstalling DirectX. It didn't work for me, though, I've resintalled and updated everything I could think of. Once your Direct3D dies no 3D games will play until you restart.

Bake:

What's the error that D3D gives? I mean, on the system event log.

I'm still trying to find-out what the heck is the ??? error, since gameguard hides the process it doesn't become 'logged' nor I can try to debug the errors. :(

Yeah, as soon as I restarded (excuse the pun) everything worked fine. Hooray. My computer generally has a couple weeks uptime, I rarely restart it. But it worked so thanks Bakemaster
