E310 Graphic card need help

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So i just bought a video card. I Installed it to my tower and everything. I did all the cables correctly and uninstalled my old graphics card. The graphics card fits into my dell E310 But When i boot my computer up the windows loads and everything. But it never reaches the desktop. It just turns all black and stays like that, I need help. I also have a 230watt power supply and it says i need a 250 watt power supply. But I read some reviews and people were running it on a 230 watt power supply. hmmm

Heres the link to the graphics card i bought,

http://www.newegg.com/product/produ...N82E16814145087

Now this is not me this is a friend i told hiom to exchange the card to see if the card itself is just bad and if not upgrade his powersuply so yea what do you guys think?

those people running at 230watts may use less watts all together then you, also running your computer and the video card on less wattage then required will fry your card along with other parts, so i would say get a new power supply, and ur problem will most likely be solved.

When it boots up and goes black, sometimes the screen is black because the video card defaults to a resolution your monitor cannot display. Try going into safe mode (hit f8 when you see the Windows XP/2000 screen) to see if the card displays there.

It could also be power supply but usually graphics cards in Windows only display 2d which doesn't use much power at all. If you got in to Windows, then loaded up a 3-d game such as SRO and THEN it went black and/or rebooted, I'd worry about a PSU.

Ok lets c, nice situation. First gotta figure out if its an OS (Windows) or hardware (video card or PSU) issue.

1. Reboot ur computer and hit F8 (*Note - hit F8 before u c Windows splash screen). This wuld load lots of SAFE MODE OPTIONS.
2. Choose SAFE MODE ONLY.
3. Hold on and check if it boots up to DESKTOP in safe mode.
(*NOTE : Generally it takes long time to boot to SAFEMODE, also on all 4 corners of the screen there should be SAFEMODE. If there is no SAFE MODE, reboot and keep hittin F8 unless u get SAFEMODE options.
4. After going to SAFEMODE desktop, go to start > settings > control panel > system > hardware tab > device manager button,
this wuld load all devices attached to ur tower, check if display adapter drivers are loaded (basically check to c if there is any yellow question marks (someting like :?: )or red cross .... If yes, install ur video drivers from the disk u might have recvd when u purchased the card.
5. After installing driver reboot normally and hk if it boots to desktop....

If reinstalling drivers dosent work, then i wuld suspect it to be ur PSU...

Gud luck and keep us informed.
