Problem with game locking up but not crashing

I have 2 recurring problems where SRO will not respond to keyboard or mouse commands (locking up), but does not crash to the desktop.

Error #1

My character will start running and will not stop for 20 to 240 seconds. I can steer my character left and right, but I cannot make him stop running. And I often wind up doing a short "mini-teleport" when I do stop running. What will happen is my character will finally stop, then he will (teleport is the best word I can think of for this), to a spot nearby, never very far away, usually the distance is no greater than the width of a road in SRO.

Error #2

The game will enter combat mode, I'll be attacking mobs, but I cannot see the damage numbers that appear over my character's head and the mobs head. I also cannot move and the damage meter on the mob seems to be lagging behind, like everything is in slow motion. The error resolves itself when the monster I'm attacking is dead, but often times one or more new monsters have begun attacking me.

These errors are driving me nuts and have cost me my life at least 2 dozen times.

PC Info

Dell Dimension desktop
Pentium 4 2.8ghz
1gb RAM
Sapphire technology ATI Radeon 2600 HD 512mb video card
Dynex PCI sound card
Western Digital 60gb system drive
Windows XP Service Pack 2
Comcast Residential Cable Internet Access

I run SRO with no other applications running and routinely use Adaware, Spybot Search & Destroy, AVG Free Virus scan, RegCleaner 4.3 by Jouni Vuorino and defrag all drives weekly.

Any advice on how to make these errors stop or cause them to occur less often?

Thanks

Comcast residential cable
Terayon Modem
Linksys wired Router
Belkin and Radio Shak cables
Intel onboard NIC

Only thing I can think of is that since my CAT-5E cable runs a complicated route going thru walls and up the exterior of the house, that it might have been damaged in installation or by the weather. But if thats the case, I'm outta luck till the spring, as its too cold to run network cables outside in February in Detroit

is your internet in general slower then you remember? cause it does sound like that could be it, my father had the same problem not to long ago, the internet would randomly stop working, or be slower at times, until he re ran everything with new cable and it worked normal again, also how long has the cable been there.
