Ok, what you got yourself there bud is a category 5 emergency..... just kidding. Its no biggie. What could have happened because you have too little RAM (memory). This RAM allows more programs to run at one time.

What could have happened was you have been running too many background programs and applications at a time while you started up the SRO client. If you have 1GB ram or below, this could happen commonly if you don't close up some background applications at game startup.

If you have 1GB, it's fine, but I'd suggest upgrading within a year. I just upgraded to 2GB memory due to the fact I alwasy had a lot of apps up and when I played Source games off steam, my comp would lock up sometimes. Let's face it, 1GB memory is not enough for newer games.

But again this may be your problem. So close unnecessary programs. Cope with your computer.

If you want to check your current memory use, ctrl+alt+del and see the little #/# in the bottom right corner. Mine at 2GB RAM is 624M/3428M with some of my background programs running. SRO clocked it at 329,231K in the processes so rounded to 329M added to what I had running. A 1GB memory would most likely not be able to run this many processes. So look into this and close unnecessary programs.

hmmm..... its not on RAM per se but the problem would have been your graphics card/video card's memory. Your video card doest have defects though, but the problem is that you maybe exceeded the preferred level of your hardware. Is your video card below 64MB then you max out your resolution, then you will encounter this problem.

the resolution capabilities of a video card depends on the memory what is built with it, the higher the resolution the greater video memory it requires. It is just like a picture file, for example a 1024x768x24 picture of bmp format will consume about 1MB of space, then if you raise the resolution the space it will require will be much bigger, same analogy for your video card. Even if your monitor can handle the most extreme resolutions, but the video card can't handle it will give a slower performance or none at all.

Just try to lower the resolution, that may fix the problem

would getting more RAM improve the smoothness of SRO? or is that graphic related and RAM doesnt do much for performance

Yes, more RAM = More enjoyable sro.

With my old 512 mb I used to occasionly lagg when someone left my party, used to take forever loading in teleporter and running into new area's would cause lag.

Now that I upgraded it too 2GB Loading towns = Instant, no lag what so ever in terms of insufficient memory.

I recently got myself a 512mb GeForce 8600GT graphics card, it's helped alot :)
Currently running 1gb of ram, soon to be 4gb ^^

I had that same problem as you have, but only after running sro for a long
time and then restarting it. Was easily fixed with just restarting the computer like you said.

Good : >

I run a pretty old mobo so adding max to it and then buying a new mobo is just a waste of money. I'll have to wait till a nice cheaply priced mobo comes around and rest assured It'll be 4GB : >
