yesterday i could at least get to the login screen once in about 5 tries, 1 of which would let me select a character and get the ??? error while trying to load into hotan, but now i click start on the luancher and immediatley get the error. i basically cannot login to sro anymore bcus of this god of all errors. ive tried everything in the guide at the top that was listed under the ??? error. im ok at computers and tried many different things from updating all my drivers to changing directx options, and even changing my monitors refresh rates. my last option was finding a troubleshoot option for directx thingy that gave me all sorts of different things to try, but none of them had any affect on sro whatsoever.
so basically, ive exausted every last possibility thats already been posted and that i can think of by myself to fix it. im down to 2 options:
1. i quit sro, and give my account away until JM fixes it.
and since god knows that JM isnt gonna fix it any time soon we go to option 2.
2. i find some1 else who has figured out how to fix it.
i really dont want to do #1
like i said b4 im ok at computers, but screen shots from any1 who knows how fix it would b simply awesome. any and all help will b greatly appreciated.

Well first, this update isnt comming everytime. So somethimes you are comming in the login screen but the most of the time you dont.

So whats about a router? Whats about your system? Whats about your vid card? Some info would be nice.

If you use mercs say bye bye to your account.

im working on screen shotting some of the errors that sometimes pop up b4 the ??? error does

ive tried that driver already and it doesnt support my computers manufacturer, HP.

downloaded it, installed it, restarted comp as required, still got the ??? error immediatley after clicking start on the launch window. any other ideas?

I would have guessed it was a graphics card issue, other than that just try restoring your computer to before the problem started happening. (google search how to do that i dont want to explain).

ive tried that as well with no results. some1 on xfire told me how to do it.

Tried compability?
Does the event/system log tells you something more about the error?

yup tried that too xzaz. where do i find the system log? ill screen shot it for ya. when i get back from school today.

Right click "This computer" > "manage" > Event log

didnt find anything usefull in there. although i prbly didnt know what i was lookin for tbh

another option is to borrow a video card that works with you pc and see if it works...or buy a new video card yourself but they are not exactly cheap and there is no guarantee that it will solve the problem.

also change your resolution to the lowest posible and try again.

i dont know any1 with a compatible grahpics card and im not about to go out and buy another one.

It has to be something about your HP computer, maby you can send a email to HP and ask your question there why you cant use the newest driver.

LOL after the last weekly inspection i dont get that ????? error anymore. LOL weird

yeah i was hopin that would fix the prblm for me but it hasnt

Did you try reinstalling a newly downloaded client?

If you reinstall from an old(er) version it won't update correctly. I'm not too sure exactly what error messages you'll get in that situation, but it could be what you're experiencing.

In short:

- Download the latest torrent
- Uninstall SRO
- Reinstall

ok so i redownloaded and reinstalled SRO again today. i got to the login screen twice followed by ??? errors. and soon after i started getttin these errors immediatley after clicking start on the launch window.

now, i dont have a degree in computer science but it seems to me theres somthin fishy about the ??? error not listing a graphics card.
i dunno if this is gonna help any1 figure out my prblm, but i thought it was worth a shot

EDIT: i screwed around with my fire wall settings and stopped gettin the first 3 errors and started gettin this ??? error with somthin listed under grahics card

well if thats all the solutions u guys have i guess im waiting on JM to fix it. in the mean time ill b looking for a new game to play until that happens. since most likelly they wont fix it im gonna wait a month or so then prbly give my account info away to a few friends, and quit for good.

I found this topic through your sig so sorry if im uber-bumping this. I had this error. Infact I still have this error. The fix for me (i havn't the SLIGHTEST CLUE why it works) is changing the windows os. Right click the file and make it run under 98. That fixed it straight away for me. I dont know about you but try 95/98/2000 etc. I'm positive if I go back to run it in XP i will get that error again.

i install silkroad, i haven't played sice the last winter,
i bearly log in ... and get the ??? error, i try to log in again , getting server full error, after a while i log in (in hotan) i run around for 1 min get the ??? error..after 3 h i log in and get the ??? error again.

then i read this topic and change the compatibility mode for win 98/me ... now i am playing since 30 min and without any error so far , thank you flynch !!!
