Please execute the "silkroad.exe"

Post by malvolio11 »

I saw a post about this earlier and saw no related answers. Also the silkroad forums require that you log into the game and make a character. Which is retarted if you cant log in.

I have installed the game several times in different directories and from different download sites. The game installs fine and patches completely.. Once the patch is complete and the game tries to launch I get this error:

Please execute the "silkroad.exe"

obviously the first thing I tried was using the silkroad.exe in the directory but all the silkroad.exe does is launch the launcher, patch, and give me the error. :banghead:

To be safe I tried every exe in the silkroad directory, uninstalled, reinstalled and tried downloading from other sites. I cant figure it out.

Also unrelated but the fileplanet download is only 6.7 mb and gives me "bad character string" warning.

**Edit** sorry forgot about specs.. although I dont think its comp:
Sony Vaio Laptop VGN-FE790G
Intel Core 2 T5500 1.66ghz
Intel 945gm 128mb graphics (integrated)
most recent Direct X

U forgot to mention what OS (Operating System)?
Lets do this,
1. Go to http://www.silkroadonline.net
2. Download the game, when i say download, dont run but SAVE the client.
3. Rename all Silkroad folders to some other name.
4. Do a fresh install of the game, BTW keep the default folder that u c during installation.

Then execute the game, the patch (if needed) should automatically updated.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it went on :)
Cheers,

Thank you for responding was beginning to feel alone.

operating system is xp home.

downloaded the client (SilkroadOnlinevGlobalOfficial_v101)

installed into a directory (c:/program files/silkroad) and didnt run the client (didnt even patch)

renamed the silkroad folder

reinstalled a fresh installation of silkroad (c:/program files/silkroad) and auto patched to v1.1

essentially I have an unpatched and a patched version now (different folders).

If I launch the patched version I Get "please execute the silkroad.exe".. if I launch the unpatched version (in a different folder) the auto patcher just starts patching and eventually finished (v1.1) and gives me the error again

If I try directly going to sro client both give me: Please execute the "silkroad.exe"

the patcher scans the directory being used not the install directory in the registry. Thus even if you use an unpatched version in a different folder name its gonna check the version.

What I want to know is what is that error telling me? Is v1.1 the most current version? Is "please execute the silkroad.exe" mean im not at the most current version?

v1.100 is the latest version that i am running.
Looks to be there is some linking problem for your folder where SRO is installed.

Where u able to play this game earlier?
What changes did u do on ur comp?

Lets see. Can u uninstall the game completely, move the existing Silkroad folder under c:\Program Files\Silkroad and perform a fresh installation. Dont install the patch .... let the patch get installed automatically and dont install any manual patch.

No I have not played the game before.

after I found the issue I made sure no firewalls were on, disabled my antivirus, updated graphics and directx drivers, and tried different directories of installation.

Lets see. Can u uninstall the game completely, move the existing Silkroad folder under c:\Program Files\Silkroad and perform a fresh installation. Dont install the patch .... let the patch get installed automatically and dont install any manual patch.

Thats exactly what I did the first time I installed the game. I downloaded the exe.. installed and auto patched.

But for sh*ts and giggles I uninstalled everything, restarted, reinstalled and auto patched with the same error. Im contemplating giving up after this much headache. Its possible that theres a conflict with some program on my computer but I cant find it. I have 0 problems with other games, online and offline. (eq1, diablo 2, sacred, silverfall etc...)

**EDIT** .. last ditch effort I rolled back to a system restore point and am downloading from silkroad.net the torrent version.
