Yep, a new computer means new hardware. If you installed Windows on PC A , the configuration will be applied to PC A. When you put this HD in to PC B. The hardware configuration is not the same witch means Blue screen of death.

But you can always try. Maby Windows XP (if you got this) will automaticly install the new drivers but not much chance.

I kinda disagree on BSOD. Ok lemme explain better, there are 2 ways to recognise a CD drive <Hardware or Software recognition>

HARDWARE RECOGNITION - There are 2 ways to figure out the CD drive is getting recognised or not.
1. While computer is starting > go to BIOS > check for CD drive recognition in the BIOS.
NOTE - BIOS settings varies with computers.
2. While computer is starting, we would get 4 boot drives being displayed,
PRIMARY MASTER - its generally the Hard Drive
PRIMARY SLAVE - its generally the second Hard Drive
SECONDARY MASTER - this could DVD / DVDRW / CD / CDRW / Combo drive.
SECONDARY SLAVE - this could DVD / DVDRW / CD / CDRW / Combo drive.
Check for the Secondary Master or Slave this should show the CD drive.

SOFTWARE RECOGNITION - There are 2 or more ways to check the drive .. i'll explain about 2 options for recognising the CD drive.
1. Go to My Computer > Check for the CD drive based on the drive letter.
2. Go to START > Settings > Control Panel > Adminstrative Tools > Storage > Check for the drives (CD).

@exality - u can connect both the hard drives on the same computer, one as MASTER and SLAVE configuration. U just need a cable which can conect between both the drives and the to motherboard. My computer at home i have 2 drives on it (one 80GB and another 200GB )

CD ROM are generally plug and play, u can check if the drive is getting recognised on the BIOS, if it does then it means, it should work fine.

Hope this helps.

Cd/dvd drives are plug to play. (Same as monitors)

It could be possible that winxp runs on your new pc, but I recommend your reinstall XP.

Truez Says  wrote:The Blue Screen of Death (BSOD, bluescreen, or stop error) is an error screen displayed by certain operating systems, most notably Microsoft Windows, after encountering a critical system error. Bluescreens can be caused by poorly-written device drivers, faulty memory, a corrupt Registry, or incompatible DLLs. Bluescreens have been present in all Windows-based operating systems since Windows 3.1; OS/2 and MS-DOS suffered the Black Screen of Death, and early builds of Windows Vista displayed the Red Screen of Death after a boot loader error.

In ur case, on Windows 98 its ur chipset driver that mus hav caused this....

One more learing - the next time after doing an FFR (aka format reinstall) follow this,
1. Install Chipset Drivers FIRST.
2. Install Video Drivers SECOND.
3. Install Audio Drivers THIRD.
4. Install Modem or NIC (Network Interface Card) Driver FOURTH.
5. All other softwares that is needed....

Also, it would be better to reboot after each install ....
Hope this helps :)
