C++ Runtime Error.
If this happened when you launched the game, update your graphic card's drivers. If this happened during gameplay, either update your sound card's drivers, or turn off sounds in the game.
How?

Graphics: Go to Start, then Run. Type dxdiag and hit enter. Click on the "Display" tab, and then you can see the name of your card in the "Device" section. To update the driver, if the name of your graphics card starts with ATI, then go to ati.com to find updated drivers. If it starts with a NVIDIA, then go to nvidia.com. If it begins with something else, like Intel, then go to intel.com. If it begins with SiS, then go to sis.com. Otherwise, google it.
Other drivers: To find the drivers for your system, go to the website of the motherboard manufacturer, and under the "Downloads" section, you can find drivers for your computer. Note that these drivers may not be the latest version, you may then need to go to the website of the company that makes the specific driver to find the latest version.

I went to
http://www.nvidia.com/page/home.html, selected download drivers at the top. Selected Graphic Drivers, GeForce FX series (My computer has a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200), then Windows XP/2000, and then clicked go. I downloaded what it gave me and the game still doesn't work. What now?

You happen to have the card that I have, and I can tell you that it works here. It might not have worked properly because it didn't seem like you followed the installation instructions. You need to download the file, then uninstall your current driver ("NVIDIA Display Driver") from Add/Remove Programs, then reboot, then install the new drivers, then reboot again. Try that.
