I'm trying to run SilkRoad on my laptop. It loads up fine after I got the graphics card updates, but unfortunately the screen is black and nothing appears. The game loads fine and I can here the music and click buttons, I just can't see anything. What should I do?
Is it possible to run SRO on this computer?
Graphics Card (ATI): RADEON IGP 320M
Black Screen
The Radeon IGP 320M is an older graphics chipset that should be able to play SRO, considering its modest graphics requirements.
Did you get the graphics card drivers from ATI/AMD or did you use the drivers supplied by the laptop manufacturer? If you get ATI's drivers from their site it can often times be the wrong one for laptops. Occasionally an error can appear, but I've seen some that will install with no warning but fail to launch DirectX applications (like SRO).
My suggestion would be to uninstall the drivers, get the drivers from the laptop manufacturer (even if it is an older version of the driver), and make sure you have DirectX 9.0c installed. When reinstalling the driver, I also suggest not enabling the Catalyst Control Center if you have that option.
If you still have the black screen o'death problem, you may want to try running with a different resolution or color depth and see if that makes any difference.
Just a guess, but are you running an HP ze4xxx series notebook?
Hope this helps, and let us know what happens.

I am running a Compaq Presario 2100.
So, manufactured by HP.
Thanks for that information. I tried to download the drivers from the SRO site and it doesn't work, gives me an error.
If this matters any -- I just reformated this computer today and never had tried Silkroad before then... I just put on the drivers that were supplied with the laptop and there has been problems with the laptop that I am currently working out, but not with the drivers.

Yeah, that's more or less the same notebook.
Try this link to download DirectX 9.0c (if you don't have it):
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en
Also, here is a link to the drivers for that notebook:

What sort of problems have you been having with the computer?

Lots of problems to name.
Originally, before installing the drivers, the computer was acting abnormally. After installing the drivers it got even worse. I'm not really worried about it because I want to use this computer strictly to program and/or run SRO.
I really thank you for this information.
Also I am not able to download the directx... When I try to use the genuine windows validation (because I don't have SP2) it says "internet explorer cannot open this... blah.."
^^ Neither are the drivers.
I am really just fed-up and I don't have the patience to fix this atm. I just want to punch the piece of shit.
