Connection Problem

I've played SRO for over 2 months now, recently I got a virus and had windows re-installed. Now whenever I double click to play, the menu screen that shows the server messages stays open for around 10 seconds then before "start" shows it shuts down. If I try to reconnect nothing happens. Any ideas what could be causing this?

I have the requirements to play, Directx 9.0c etc and have updtaed my drivers. I've also had to install .net framework.

Everything on my computer seems to be up to date but yet SRO still seems to be overloaded and shuts down. This only happens once then I cant even get the server message window to re-load.

:banghead:

Is this a problem with the updater, been reading through and alot of people have the same trouble. Also the manual patch is well out of date so that's a no-go

It seems to be my router blocking me, i'm on Virgin Media. I just re-installed windows and barely even get the server screen before it disconnects.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi Gharin,

Are you getting any error messages when the launcher window closes?

Also, I'm assuming you're using the same router now that you were using before when Silkroad was working, right? You shouldn't have to open ports in the router, but if you want to try that then go to http://portforward.com/ for info on how to do this for most routers.

Have you taken a look at your hosts file? For XP users, it's located in the C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\ directory.

Did you install an antivirus or firewall program after your rebuild? If so, it may be preventing traffic to the servers. Be sure to let all of the applications in C:\Program Files\Silkroad\ have access.

Hope this helps, and hope to see you back online soon.

Thanks for the reply, after reinstalling windows i have a new antivirus but i tried switching it off and that doesn't work. I've allowed the necessary files through my firewall and that doesn't work.

I've tried every IP in the hosts file, i've tried every fix for the server inspection problem.

I get no errors it just loads then crashes before the server messages on the left show or "start" on the right. I've tried the patch, i've tried a full re-installation.

I'm basically out of ideas...

Can someone help please?

Just curious, but are you using Windows Vista or XP?

Using windows xp, because im not getting server messages or start button I assume it's not even connecting. The last thing I can think of is to open my firewall or router to a port. I tried switching firewall off though so I fail to see it's that.

I have no problem accessing any game/site but SRO

I've basically given up on this now. lvl 41 in 2 months and a 4 week ticket and monkey all gone to waste...

Update: I've pinged the server and get 0 packet loss so it's not a DNS issue.

When you had Windows reinstalled, do you know if it was a complete format and install, a recovery with a recovery partition, or a repair installation?

It does sounds like a software problem. Silkroad is dependent on the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime and even though you're not getting a VC++ error box, I would probably try to reinstall the runtime libraries.

Yeah, it's a shot in the dark but you've pretty much tried everything else.
