Annoying "???" message

Hello all.
I'm new here and to Silkroad Online. However, I've never been able to play it. Why? Well this is the story:
When I launch the client, and click on start, then go through the nProtect thing, suddenly Silkroad closes and I get this message:
No matter what I click on, it doesn't start, but the computer doesn't crash.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Silkroad twice, including the Videocard drivers. I already have directX 9. I've lowered my firewall. But nothing changes. But apparently this message is the error reporter, and if I delete it from the Silkroad directory, the message doesn't pop up, but it doesn't start. (I put the reporter back).
So any ideas? Has anyone else had this problem? (Well I know other people have had it but I mean in this situation specifically).

Hmm... odd. Your system specs look more than adequate for this game. What model GFX card do you have? Perhaps the issue lies in incompatability.
If the card is an ATI brand, you may want to try earlier driver versions, or 'unofficial' ones (I don't know where they can be found, but I've heard various people trying them when all else fails).
Sorry I couldn't help more.

Well Thanks.
It's okay, really. It just means I'll have to be patient until they have updates for it, have customer service, or release the finished version.
And I do have an ATI card, but I think it's better for myself to work around it, than with it, y'know? I just don't always like compromising.

I had the same problem earlier this morning around 4-4:30 am EST. When they did a server reboot. I think it was just because they didn't have the servers completly back up. I waited about 5-10 minutes and tried again, and after that I had no problems.

ur graphics card may be too old or burning too hot to play.. lower your graphic's accelerator and decrease your resolution and quality.. try it then..

I use to get that similar looking problem alot when i played rose online. At the time it was a graphics card issue but those mistranslated question marks could mean anything in this game..

It's very strange because they even have the drivers for the ATI series. So I guess it really is a hardware problem. Like I said, all I can do is wait.

I get this sometimes too, not very often but I've had it before and it closes the game and then that popup appears.
Athlon 64 4000+.
2.5GB Memory.
Geforce 6800 Graphics Card.
Even with these monster specs nobody can seem to run the game on HIGH settings, not that you need them though.

i have that problem i can't find no fix for it but it does't always come up so i guess just close all prgrams running in the background appart from the firewall and there seems to be no problem i mean i have no problems when i do this.

I run the game on High settings... >.> In fact I'm going to see whether I can force some anistropic filtering and antialiasing/multisampling onto it to smooth the graphics and make everything look a bit nicer.

I've been playing for weeks and every once in a while I get this error. Today I got it three times in a row... middle of a trade run... and I am pissed.

OMG! I just got the new update and it works! I knew all I had to do was wait.

Oh crud, it's happening again. Now I know for sure that the Problem is caused by Gameguard because I never had this problem when it was not in use.
I sent a bug report to them and hopefully they will do something because on the silkroad.net forums everyone is starting to complain about the same problem and somebody keeps on telling them to turn off firewall/antivirus which didn't help before, and it sure won't help now.
Oh well. I guess I'll have to wait again. But isn't it ironic how the GameGuard was meant to enrich the online experience when many people can't even experience it?

Yeah, I'm getting this error now also. I haven't played much in the past couple of days (sorry TaxCollector and Kabi!), been a bit busy. It has to be GameGuard.

The Firewall thing wasnt the fix, sound card driver is the problem

when I turn all sounds off I do not experience any crashes but with sound on a crash occurs...

so for people who get this error sound card driver updates =)

I have the same card and never get this particular error.

I do not think its the graphics card, I think its the sound card drivers that may be causing the crashes...

I have the same error, but I never get it while starting the game, only while being afk, if I put up a stall i'm usually out in windows when I get back with the screen, been thinking about it a bit, might be gfx card, cause it probably happends after screensaver goes on. Never happend while playing though

Update all drivers, including sound and graphics, then update DirectX to 9.0c.
