Great lag in the den

Hi,
Im having a little problem. I just started to farm at the bandit stronghold, but every minute it looks like there is a 5 sec long lag. The other people there dont have it, and its very hard to play with this "lag" like thing - once everything is okay I just killed an archer tho it still stands in his place, he just stands, I just stand, I cant do anything, and boom - nearly 5 secs later I see Im being hit by 3+ archers and my hp is very low.
I have an nVidia GeForce 7600 GS 256MB and 1 GB RAM so I dont think my PC is too old to handle those characters in that area...my driver is the latest, and SRO video options are set to low.
Any ideas?

Lag isn't caused by your videocard or your processor. It's what's happening to your network. Are you running torrents or any other network-heavy programs? Do you have spyware? Is a family member or roommate doing something network-heavy?

I've just got a new winchester 2 months ago, havent downloaded any P2P programs like Kazaa, torrent or DC++. The only program I run while playing is MSN. I have the newest anti-virus program and nobody else uses the computer just me. There are 2 more computers on the network, but the other members of my family only browsing the net, so nothing network-heavy. I dont have spyware programs, I didnt even think of it that my computer could have so many spyware in 2 months...but its a good idea, I'll try it out when I get home.

is it wireless, can a neighbor be uploading stuff through your network? Check your router's logs and see if there is anyone else that's on/been on your network other than you and your family.

Also, I've rarely seen this but sometimes the wireless router will wig out and you'll get a roller coaster ride in download/upload speed.

Go to http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and take the test. If it changes drastically (like going from 1500kbps to 3500kbps, then down to 500kbps) then you have a wireless router issue. There are some connection optimizers that can solve this issue, but i don't know which ones are good.
