why would you want to play in safe mode?

In any case. *most* programs should work in safe mode with exceptions. Weather or not directx is usable in safe mode, i dont really know. Any smart company would disable most windows features in safe mode. And i say that with confidence because when Windows is running in safe mode it doesnt do its cd-key check that normally runs in regular mode. It would only make sense to disable features. If not, microsoft is retarded.

Safe mode is troubleshooting mode. It's not a good idea to run your computer in that mode. Updating SRO sometimes works better in that mode, but in no circumstance should you play in that mode.
