Crashes when trying to start - again!

F-ck!

Every time I try to start the game I immediately get the familiar "Silkroad.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" message. This seems to happen at least every week or every two weeks. What the hell is going on? :x

Have you tried re-downloading the client (uninstall and remove all folders first - be sure to save your screenshots somewhere else!), and reinstalling it completely?

Also, have you done a spyware/virus scan? Also, seeing what programs are running in the background can generally help this too.

It's got nothing to do with spyware or viruses. Like I said, this has happened to me several times before (and other people). For a few hours or a day or so, the program just crashes when you try to start it. Then for some reason it works again. I tried re-installing last time, that didn't help.

it happened to me this WE... I D/l the client thrice before come to a solution... if your problem is the same than mine was, and just in case, a check won't hurt :

right-click on the SRO client, then go to Properties, and make shure that the "protect system while using this*" box is unckecked

mine was, and since it isn't anymore, SRO rus as smoothly as ever!

yay !

hope this was clear, but : Im not on my 'puter right now, and can't check the exact name and way to get to that box. :x howerer, i'll see to that tonight and make a better post ;)

Huh? In Windows XP I've never seen an option remotely like "protect system while using this*". There sure ain't no such option in the properties for the client.

okay i found the exact tip i used :

as i said right-click on your silkroad icon, then "run as"*

you should have a screen saying : "on what user account would you like to rus this progam ?" and 2 choices :

-"this user " -> wich will use

or

-"specify user"

under the selected "this user" you'll have a checkbox saying :
"protect this computer and its data against unauthorised acces"

uncheck this, and run silkroad... this actually worked for me so I hope it'll work for you as well !
... and don't worry about unothorised access: tha check-box was chacked again last time i played and it ran smoothly as ever !

* please forgive me if the actual names are not the one dispayed on your screen, I run a french version of XP... ->all names are a "on the go" translation of what i have... and since my English is <insert comment here>...
