SRO website not working??

Post by Kayson »

The SRO website isn't working. I get the message "page cannot be displayed".

I'm also having this problem: http://www.silkroadforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=15065.

Why won't the website work, and how can I get the game running??

The website is working perfectly here.

This might suggest a connection problem from your pc to the silkroad servers.

Try running a traceroute to http://www.silkroadonline.net, and post the results.

A traceroute can be done in the following way (I guess you're using windows xp):

* Start - Run
* Type in cmd and click ok
* Type tracert http://www.silkroadonline.net and hit enter
* Wait for the output

Thank you Gcool, now we're getting somewhere. Here's the results:http://www.maj.com/gallery/Kayson/Misc/tracerout.jpg.

So, what does this mean?

This "knology" that I can see in the screenshot, is that your isp? (did some googling, and it seems to be an isp).

If so, the trace seems to time out with your isp.

Also, I see you've got ZoneAlarm installed. Try the same trace again with ZoneAlarm disabled. If the trace times out at the same hop again, the problem is almost certain gonna be located with your isp (assuming knology is your isp).

Yes, Knology is our ISP. :)

I tracerouted SRO.net again with ZoneAlarm shutdown and the same exact results came up.

So what should I do? I'm not very knowledgable when it comes to ISP's. Should I call them? What should I say?

So what exactly do those traceroute results mean?

Best thing you can do, is indeed call your isp and tell them you're unable to connect to http://www.silkroadonline.net. They're probably going to traceroute it themselves, and if they come up with the same result, they'll know what to do.

As for how traceroute works exactly, that's a bit long to explain. But http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traceroute should give you a good idea of how it works.

K, thanks a million Gcool. I contacted our ISP and I'll be hearing from them shortly. Hopefuly they can fix, or at least shed some light on my problem.
I'll update this thread in a day or two and tell you how it goes. Until then thanks! 8)

It's working now! 8) I haven't heard back from our ISP but I think they might have fixed it. I dunno...

Good luck to anyone else having this problem. If you do have this problem, I'd recommend sending your Internet Service Provider an email sayin the SRO website doesn't work for you.
Good luck!
