Who here uses crossover? (plays on iMac?)

For some reason, ever since the update a few days ago, (adding earth spirit avatar dress) Silkroad online hasn't been working, once I hit the start button, the hackshield icon will appear on the bottom right, but nothing else happens and the little box with the new updates and start button stays on the screen with the start button gone.
I tried re-installing, then again under a vista bottle, but nothing seems to work. Did this update render crossover useless?

I'm having the same problem running SRO under wine in Ubuntu. I thought maybe it was a video driver problem when trying to start up the 3D accelerated game client, but I reinstalled my drivers to the latest in the repository and nothing. Like you, my launcher starts, I click 'start', hackshield starts up, and returns to the launcher with no start button. No errors. Nothing.

Just a thought. Try launching the game via crossover from a commandline. I know with wine I can go to a terminal and run 'wine /path/to/silkroad.exe' to get the launcher to load. Then the terminal might display some error messages? I'm pretty sure you can open a terminal on the Mac too, then maybe run something similar to 'crossover /path/to/silkroad.exe.

I'd try it now on my ubuntu box, but I have to go to work.

It's not working on Wine?
hell, I can't even install wine, it gives me an error and it seems like alot of people are having the same problem I have with Wine.
I'll try the command line like you said, but I'm starting to worry that maybe Joymax found a way to restrict these emulator programs.

I think you stated that you're playing on a Mac with Crossover. Is there even a version of wine for the Mac? I'm using wine in Ubuntu (10.04 I think). I've had wine installed for quite some time now, but I've only recently seen the issue with SRO on this system. Wine itself seems to work fine. Other apps load in it. SRO launch screen loads, just not the 3D rendered intro, or the rest of the game, after hackshield.

ok, we have the EXACT same problem, but yes, there is Wine for mac OS X
I read a guide on how to install it and I ran into a problem that seems common for the last week. Maybe Wine itself is having an issue, or maybe Joymax did something, I certainly hope it's just Wine, and that MacPorts will do an update or something.

What is the issue with installing wine? What kinds of errors is it giving?

I'm not aware of this issue, but I haven't tried installing it in quite some time, just using the version I already have. Apt in Ubuntu likely is updating wine to the latest version whenever one comes out, although I haven't specifically noticed that package updating. Maybe Ubuntu is blocking the updates for now and just keeping the old version up and running.

EDIT: I don't know if this will help you much since it's about Ubuntu, and you're on a Mac, but check out this site:

http://ubuntu-virginia.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1468838&page=2

It talks about different wine packages and the poster is trying to play WoW. Perhaps some of those packages exist in some form for the Mac or crossover? I'm attempting to install them now in Ubuntu.

Running Ubuntu 10.4

Same things appear here. It fails regardless of which windows version is used in wine.

Anyone figured out a way to get it to start?

I haven't found anything to get it to work yet. I did find a comment on the winehq thread for SRO where someone apparently had the same problem we are having about a year ago. No one responded to him, but I posted a response the other day. Hopefully someone else there will see my post.

Everybody submit a bug report on there support page. I'm sure if we all keep doing it they'll undo their update.
I've already done 3, and they responded to all of them.

I posted this on another thread in this section, but posting here in case someone doesn't see the other thread.

Just found this webpage about this issue. It seems Silkroad v1.265 is not supported in wine. It may be because of a wine bug that someone references in the thread on that page.

http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=9638&sid=fc7cfbc7236a2390cecd4f02ee3c3269

EDIT: The bug identifies HackShield as the likely cause of it crashing. They say wine is missing some kernel level things that hackshield is expecting to see.

More knowledge more power, at least Wine is aware, now we need Joymax to become aware.
