Silkroad Booting Off USB

Hey,

So this is a prety "out-there" idea.

Basically i was messing around with a new USB stick i got from College, and i managaged to get a way of making XFire (the original version) to boot of my usb stick. So, when i plug it in at school i can load it directly and talk to my gamming buddies, this is a awsome thing as i dont need to install it and i can delete all files that MAY have been added to the computer after.

So, following on from this i was wondering if i can install it to the USB stick, and make it BOOT from it on a computer that doesnt already have it installed. It can work with a number of programs so, it may work with Silkroad.

Im appealing to anyone who may of attempted this/done this already.
The whole idea is just to simply logon Silkroad in my lunch breaks/breaks and pvp for a hour or so if its really bad weather.

Im quite sure this will encounter some problems, but nothing is impossible.

If anyone knows how/may be interested in attempting to do this, drop me a pm or reply here.

Thanks for your time!

if you have a big enough space on what ever you using it runs lag free (for the most part) SRO does not need registry mods to run so its perfect to move from computer to computer.

i have a 320 gb portable hard drive and i have everything on there not OS related.

I know this post is a bit old, but this came up in another topic, so I'll post here as well. SRO will definitely work on a Linux bootable USB thumb drive. Pretty much any Linux thumb drive should work. Check out ones at pendrivelinux.com

Once you have a working thumb drive that your system will boot with, use it to install wine (e.g., apt-get install wine, if you're running Ubuntu). Then download and install SRO (wine SilkroadGlobalOfficial.....exe)

That's it in a nutshell, and it worked well for me. Perhaps a more thought out tutorial is in order.

I know, quoting a banned user, on an old thread... Ubuntu/SRO is not working, hasn't for a while. Just wanted to respond in case someone else stumbles upon this thread and gets the wrong idea.

It would seem SRO stopped working in Ubuntu (or any distro of Linux) since Joymax moved to Hackshield (or at least an updated version of it). The launcher loads fine, but when you click 'start', Hackshield comes up, gets about 10-20% through, and just goes back to the launcher. No errors on the desktop. If I run SRO from the command prompt, I can see some errors, but a normal user wouldn't see this. They are wine errors, not SRO errors.

It would seem OS X users using crossover are having the same issue. From what I understand, it's a bug in wine (missing some kernel-level stuff Hackshield is looking for), nothing to do with Linux itself or SRO itself.

Just putting this out there. I hope things change soon...

I used to play Silkroad at school a lot via my USB stick, no problems at all. Just copy your Silkroad folder from your desktop on your USB.
