Ubuntu DC issues - bard dances

Currently i am running Ubuntu 8.10 ( although not fully updated, i need to do that tonight ).
Anyway whenever i am in a party with anyone with any dances activated my SRO screen disappears, i still here the sro sounds and the ubuntu system monitor says its in "zombie mode".
Has anyone heard of this before or possibly know any sort of soloution? Its marking partying incredibly difficult.
The following is what i gathered from searching: Apparently turning off all effects solves the issue although thats not really a liable soloution, it would make partying a hell of a lot harder than it should be. But at the same time i guess it's better than dc'ing. Im not sure if it works though, need to find another bard to test it with -.-
