Wine 0.9.44 is working fine for me in PCLinuxOS. I'd suggest downgrading to 0.9.44

Ummmmm... nop.
I have compiled the sources(fountains) of wine 9.44 but the mistake he(she) persists. I believe that it is a problem of the last update of silkroad, before it me was working perfectly but now there is no way (in 2 PCs with ubuntu)

uhmm.. maybe a combination of both?

everything was running smoothly at first (9.45), then there was a silkroad update.. After the update there were missing textures and minimap problems.. then after another update, the client wouldn't even start.

After i downgraded to 9.44, everything went back to normal.. no texture/minimap problems.. just download the deb package if you're using ubuntu.. no need to compile.. :)

A little off topic, but does anyone know why window decorations are not showing up for me when I use Beryl? I don't have a title bar, max/min/close buttons, or resize borders... just the contents of the window itself. If I close Beryl, everything is normal.

This is on PCLinuxOS.

Edit: I think for now I'll just leave Beryl turned off unless I want to use its features. It'd still be nice to know how to fix it. I think I saw a bug report on the wine website somewhere, so maybe they already know about it.

One other thing I noticed: When I run SRO in wine, after I play for a while, sometimes for even 5 or 10 minutes, sometimes an hour, the entire screen will freeze and won't accept keyboard/mouse input. Everything still seems ok on the server end though because I can go on my wife's computer and see I'm still in the party, and I can send myself PMs and such. It's just my Wine desktop window doesn't receive any input/output.

Anyone else have this issue? It happens seemingly no matter how I configure Wine. Desktop window, no desktop window, managed, unmanaged, etc.

I have two Ubuntu machines running the game "flawlessly".

Both are running Ubuntu 7.04 with Wine 0.9.45. One is 64-bit version and have run so far with just an occasional crash - no more or less than I have when I run it under windows. Some graphical flaws with buffs (they turn of now and then for a second), potions (the potion swirl does now show) and casting of spells (mostly shown, but sometimes without the swirly bits again).

The 32-bit version suffers from some "initial startup"-crash. However, it is only like one attempt out of 10 or so it happens, so I can live with that.

I am very pleased.

I just gave up trying to reload Ubuntu, but it really hates ATI users seriously. You couldn't change or set any graphics, its on medium settings for default. The game itself was a lot slower than on Windows.

So, so I took off lens flare and texturing filter off, and set the texture to medium. I can't test it right now but if one guys are bored, here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?drumutnyhy7 (Put this in your settings folder and make a backup too)

Just make sure you change the resolution because I forgot to set it off to 1024X760... (Its at 1440X900 oops ;P)

Yeah tell me what problems still exist :P

I'm in the same boat you are. Wine 0.9.45 gives me missing textures in various spots of the ground (the "center circle" of the floor in Hotan, patches of dirt outside all over), some spots of the ground appear to be see-through. I can see a faded image of the sky in some parts of the ground, usually when there's a hill. Also the mini map is broken. The map itself is squished a little and the border (with the + and - buttons and location name) is shifted to the left a bit.

Playing SRO in Wine 0.9.44 fixes all of that for me.

However in either version of wine, I can only play (or go afk) for a certain amount of time. Sometimes I can play for 10 minutes, sometimes an hour. After that time, the screen freezes, accepts no keyboard I/O, but the game continues on on the server end.

There is a bug report at winehq: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2236

Another one for other software:
http://bugs.winehq.com/show_bug.cgi?id=663

Looks like an old bug that wasn't resolved? They seem to claim it only happens in "non-managed" mode, but it seems to happen to me in both managed and non-managed.

yeah, i downgraded and SRO works fine except for the choppy sounds. 0.9.45 fixed the sounds but had those texture problems..

I'm not experiencing the problem about the input.. Works fine for me even after long hours of grinding.. :)

It's not so bad. When it works properly (i.e., Joymax update doesn't screw something up), SRO runs faster for me in Linux than it does in Windows.

Besides, it's just nice to know that you can run it in Linux so you can still get in if your Windows box dies. It's nice to be able to play the game without all the resource overhead of antivirus, antispyware, software firewalls, and everything else that Windows systems seem to "need" to run at a moderately safe level.

hi there
I've got a problem with my SRO, and is that when I run the .exe with wine (9.46) the frame rate goes at .1/sec and also it has no textures, so it is very unplayable. Do you know why?

Is anyone still running SRO in Ubuntu (or other Linux)? The past few times I've tried running it, the launcher comes up, then instantly goes black-and-white and locks up. The rest of the OS continues to work. The SRO launcher just freezes in a black-and-white state.

If I look at the process list in a shell, I see an entry for

[Silkroad.exe] <defunct>

It may have to do with the patching problems that Joymax reported because of so many people downloading the patch, but I thought it was doing this to me before the patch was available.

Is anyone else experiencing this? It makes the game essentially unplayable in Linux for me.
