The consolidated "SRO and/or patcher doesn't start"

So I tried to install SRO on my laptop, so I can play two characters at once, but the patcher loads for a second and then closes.

I was looking into the problem here on the forums, and I found too many split threads. So, I decided to make this one, and hopefully everyone can post here about it.

I did try to install the DirectX SDK, but it didn't work, so if anyone else has any other suggestions or comments, discuss.

If it doesn't want to download from alone try downloading it manually. Go to the main page and in "Data Bank" you can find a patch (version 1.030, the curent is 1.047). After instaling that maybe it will finish the other 017 patches

Actually it shouldn't go as slowly as you might expect because most of the data in small patches likely comes from updating the executable, which you'll only have to do once so it's the latest version - that, and there was no recent patch so you don't have a hundred people all trying to get it at once. Hopefully.
