HELP SILK DOESN'T WORK ON MY LAPTOP

I have a Compaq Laptop which isn't really all that crappy...
but i just downloaded the Euro client, and installed, and after that the updates just wont start...

i got the new Direct X

but im not sure what else there is to do

I'm using windows XP
with and intel pentium 4 on it
and my graphics card is not too bad... im not sure what it is...

well do you guys know anything about how to fix it?
