Set settings permenantly?

When I start SRO, it's decided that some settings should always be some way, even if I set them another and exit the game properly.

How can I edit the settings file to change this? I looked at settings.dat in a hex viewer, but to no avail.

When u say settings, wat kinda settings r u referrin too??
Is it te options on the game??
