Disconnected from server

Post by Black_Mamba »

I seem to get this a lot, I was wondering does the game connect using your internet explorer settings?

When I get disconnected the first thing I notice is that the data/activity light on my modem has gone dead, I open up IE and the bottom left says "Connecting to IP address", with the IP number there obviously, it stays like that then the "Page cannot be displayed" screen comes up.

What does that usually mean? That my internet connecting IP address has gone down? Because last night I used a proxy for my IP instead to connect through and I didn't get disconnected at all from Silkroad.

So I'm wondering my disconnections are sometimes due to the game connecting through that way and it's booting me out when my IE settings go kaput?

Would setting my default browser to firefox make the game use that to connect through? I think it's something to do with the internet connection IP addresses.

I don't often get disconnected. My default browser is Firefox.

But then, who uses IE nowadays anyway? (Apart from the misinformed and the suicidal) :]

Hey, you'd be killing two birds with one stone- getting a decent, non-dangerous web browser, and solving your SRO issues. :)

Yeah I don't like Firefox much either, it doesn't display some sites properly. The popup blocker is okay I guess but I use IE with google toolbar and then I have spyguard and spyblaster running, I haven't seen any spyware on my pc at all in over 2 years so I'm quite safe as far as that goes.

Not sure about SRO though.

When I try and use firefox I get popups saying webfixer, I click cancel and it tries to take me to the site regardless, it's obviously trying to install spyware or viruses.

And I doubt 90%+ of the internets users could be that misinformed lol

IE is fundamentally flawed with some pretty horrendous security holes. Not to mention that most hackers primarily focus their attention on Internet Explorer vulnerabilities, and IE users are the first to suffer from newly discovered hacks and backdoors.

I didn't know so many people still tolerated using it. Besides the obvious security flaws, I find it cumbersome and awkward to use. At least with Firefox I don't need to have 20 items squashed together on my taskbar. Tabs let me see all the pages I currently have open, no matter which one I'm looking at, and other pages are just a click away. And all I have on my taskbar is one little FireFox item. :)

I use it for browsing these forums infact. I go to the main page, open the main sections in their own tabs, and then proceed to go through those tabs and open more tabs for each topic. About 2 minutes later I'm ready to start viewing them one after another, without having to wait for pages to load, or wading through clutter, etc.

But hey, each to their own. :) There's no problem if you have the anti-virus and anti-*ware programs to deal with whatever you pick up. Personally, I prefer not to pick things up in the first place... :)
