SRO high cpu usage

Post by penfold1992 »

ok so the problem is:
ive noticed since playing sro again that my sound(from itunes) will just freeze randomly and lock up making a really annoying noise, its not just itunes that does it. ive also had problems hearing people in skype and vent so its really bugging me now.

anyway... i figure its the CPU usage of sro. running standard programs im using maximum of 15% cpu (this includes: skype, msn, itunes, chrome(with 4 or 5 tabs), my keyboard manager, my anti virus and network card application. (a long with a few driver software like mobo and gfx default driver programs)

as soon as i turn sro on, i may hit 80% straight away. i have graphics on low, its in windowed mode too.

im pretty sure its not my pc... i have a high end dual core and ati radeon 4850 gfx card, 4 gig of ram, temperature is currently at...
35 (however my cpu is running close to 50 right now)
but im about to spray it out.

is there anyway to reduce my cpu usage of sro or anything else?

ty in advanced =D

Heh, I have an AMD Athlon X2-3800 stock w/ 2 GB and a GTX 460. I run vent, skype, etc, some of those other programs, but typically windowed 3d apps take more power. I've started running it fullscreen and just alt-tabbing out to do stuff if I really need to. I know it used to be pretty unstable to do so but seems better lately.

Haven't looked at CPU usage for a while now but I think mine runs about 50%. Of course I set affinity for some programs too. I haven't really messed with SRO's affinity, don't know if it prefers single or dual-cores or what.

I'm at work, no access to vent or microphone. But just look up "StartAffinity". I'm not sure it'll make any difference in how much memory SRO uses, but you can force SRO to run on one processor core instead of both.

End result is you create a shortcut to startaffinity and pass arguments to it for the SRO client so it starts out on one core and stays on one core. Handy when I need my other core to rip DVD's and surf.

Well turn off bloom and detailed shadows for starters if you haven't already. Setting the affinety is one way to multitask better but does not really lower the cpu usage.

There isn't really a way to lower it. It is about how it is programed. Could try defragging your hard drive/ Normal system matinance to see if it helps.

Ccleaner and scan the registry for errors could also help.

Another thing you might want to do is add an exception in your antivirus for the Silkroad folder. When you add the exception it will not scan those files when they are loaded (reducing cpu usage in a way). Side note what anti virus are you using?

Still the same issue after 2 weeks?

AVG is kinda a resource hog. Could try microsoft security essentials.

Could try having it off if and see if the problem happens again.
