I have widescreen and I'm using 1024x768 .. or did you mean something else?

1024x768 gives an aspect ratio of 4:3, which makes the picture stretched on wide-screen monitors.
I'm looking for a way to make the game run in 1440x900.

No way to do it. I have a widescreen monitor myself and have already looked in to it.

Still, seeing as I've only ever played the game with it looking stretched, it's looks normal to me as I've not seen it any other way.

I also have a feeling that at the resolution you want you would get a FPS so incredibly low it wouldn't be worth playing.
