European players and connection performance - How's yours?

Post by OlHybrid »

European not as in the in-game Euro race, but as in the actual old continent wannabe union...
Anyway, ever since the FW update I guess, I've been having a hard time in SRO due to heavy lag, regardless of where my character stands.
We're talking about 2-5 seconds between me pressing a button/clicking and something actually happening on screen.
Traceroutes don't show anything weird, and speed tests are ok (10Mbps connection BTW).
So I was wondering how it was for you right now. Any registry trick or something? I've tried Speedguide.net's TCP optimizer and Cablenut, no luck.

Edit: I don't have any heavy bandwidth eater in the background while playing either, in case you're wondering.

its hard to say some people have the same problem as yours and cant find anything wrong with there connection. first check that your router, bridge, or modem is not over heating for this could cause lag and server disconnections. if everything checks out there, see if you could have your internet company come to your house and check your wires to make sure there is no damage done to them. Other then that there isnt much u can do unless you are getting a wireless signal, and it is somewhat weak you can enhance the signal to give you better speeds. but then again chances are its just the sro server lagging, i havent had any lag myself but i have heard from several users that that have been getting major lag server side.

good luck.

With my old comp I seemed to have the same prob, lagg all the time --> but it was just my comp and more specific my graphic card that was overheating. (Only with SRO ofcourse other games didn't cause this). Now that I have a new comp everything works smooth and have no lagg at all. So I'm not sure it has anything to do with lagg (internet lagg) but more with the performance of your computer.

Athlon64 X2, 2GB RAM, Radeon x800 (tops at 50 C when playing).
Nothing overclocked. Also tried the integrated NIC instead of the usual PCI add-on card I use, no difference.

Can people who play w/o problem post pics of their TCP/IP settings? Thanks.

Edited for a stoopid typo -.-

Could just be everyone downloading the patch is putting a lot of strain on the servers and bandwidth. If it's still this bad tomorrow, then I'd investigate further.

Nope, I've had heavy lag ever since the Fortress War update as I said in the first post.

No lag since the fortress war update. It's a bit weird that it's since the update, but it might be your internet connection or computer. (Maybe your PC is not good enough anymore since Fortress War.)

There is something that could help a bit:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328890/

Yesterday I followed the instructions in there, and for the first time in a while, the game was actually playable. Not blazing responsive, but at least fairly enjoyable. I'd have to test some more to make sure it wasn't a one-time lucky draw.
