i'm buying a new computer soon and need to know what's best....windows vista or xp professional? i will be playing a lots of silkroad on this computer too. Please tell me why should i get vista or xp. ty

Windows XP is better then Vista in nearly every possible way,
it's faster, more secure, works better with any type of hardware,
also contains better integrated sound, nearly everything is better with Windows XP.
I base this statement on absolutely nothing and thus you may completely ignore it since it's bullshit .

I personally like Windows Ultimate (SP3).

If you are buying a new computer get vista, Most places wont sell a new computer without it. It's cheaper then buying in vista in the store and at some point you will need it when XP gets dropped by Microsoft. Most people who are upgrading have XP anyways just use the key from your old computer if you want to use XP still.

Vista owns, XP sucks.

I personalty don't like Vista that much, what things in Vista do you like better then XP or 2000?

XP, Vista is is the same as XP (dont come with that DX10 BS, you can get dx 10 for xp and it dosent really make much of a difference) Other than that i see no difference in XP or vista, besides the fact that vista eats your ram up sooo much

I tried Vista for max 1 week until I did format and installed XP back. I had sound driver problems, couldn't set up Ventrilo sound settings(For my audio driver). Too big icons for my 17" 1024*768 resolution. I liked the search thing in Start menu and Chess where I never beat the PC xD.
I have used XP for 5 years and I am used to that. I am gonna wait for Windows 7 to come out.
Also, never buy Vista with PC(already installed) because some PCs wont let you to uninstall Vista. Have had that problem with many schoolmates who bought laptop where Vista was already installed.

Windows XP cannot run DirectX 10 (technically, Direct3D 10) applications because of the significant changes in the graphics API and driver model

Thats true that Vista eats ram. XP: 200-300mb RAM usage but Vista 800-900mb RAM usage. So for Vista you need at least 2GB ram to play games(My PC took 1.7GB ram while SRO was running in max graphics without shadows) and 4GB(You need x64 CPU with 64-bit windows) would be great for gamers.

Well, I never had any problems with vista(yes, I use it since it firstly came out).
But with XP, I've had a lot of problems, things wouldnt work, ... Y'know.


And btw, vista looks better in any way x)

I would choose vista, but it does not support usb flash disc immediately(need to install drivers), so you can have probs connecting any usb related devices with storage like camera etc. Vista consumes more ram also and its a bit slower, but maybe faster when you run aplications.

XP owns, whenever i see a classmate working with his Vista laptop i get a headache..

And about the looks, just get a Vista theme for XP like i did

Get XP while you still can if you want something familiar. Get Vista if you just don't care and want a new comp.
