How do you look at a drop before you pick it up?

I know to press "z" to see what all drops on the screen are, but I read posts where people seem to be able to tell if a drop is SOS before they pick it up. What am I missing? Is it just the name as in "Iron Bow" is a level 16 bow and "Powerfull Iron Bow" is lvl 18 and therefore not SOS. Is there another way to look at a drop besides press "z" ?

If it's same as how it was when I played earlier, the box is different in looks.

Well actually the SOX boxes are yellow right? And the regular drops are red boxes. My monkey collects my loot, but otherwise I always press Z to see what it is.

Thanks for the help, seems like I shoulda known that. Ive only personally ever picked up 2 sox items, I forgot what they looked like. Im gonna take a level 1 femal armor glove out to know where and drop it to make sure what they look like.

u just put ur mouse over the item on the floor...and it shows a small box
