Is a monkey mandatory for Euro parties?

Hey, I just started my first Euro character and everytime I walk to a training area, it is loaded with gold and items that nobody has picked up. So, my question is:

1) is an item-grabber pretty much mandatory for an efficient party, seeing that the party pretty much stays in one postion and you'll be too busy doing your job to bother picking up gold?
2)Also, how would you know which item belongs to you in an auto-item party, unless you walk up to it and attempt to pick it up?

If Euro relies too much on an item grabber, I might as well just stick to China.

1 monkey / bunny is enough to do the job for a full party. so, it's not a mandatory.

but wouldn't one person (the one with the monkey), get all the drops then. If you can't tell which one's yours, walking to every item is a waste of time and can cost the party.

The rabbit/monkey/pig will share the items with everyone else if your party has been set to autoshare items, if I remember correctly. I have just recently learned that you SHOULD be using autoshare items if you want to be fair to your parties cleric. Since when does he have the time to kill things for their items?

Please let me know if I'm wrong.

Thanks AWatcher, I'll be sure to join a party with a monkey and test it out 8)

P.S. It's confirmed in this thread that a item-grabber does share items for the whole party in item-share, so there is no need to worry about which item is yours.
