Hello everyone,
I just started playing silk, and I finally reached lvl 5. I have yet to put any of my skill points into any area yet. (In fear of making a gimped build.)
In the FAQ sticky, it says at lvl 20 I will be able to pick my job (i.e. thief etc). Does wear I put my skill points now effect what I will be come at level 20?
Am looking to become a thief, but have no clue where to start stat wise. In the menus, I see a bunch of things I can start putting points into, but am kinda lost. Am afraid I will put points in areas that will not let me become a thief later.

+1
the pure str fire glavie is the easiest to make out of all the builds
if u like heavy damage, super leveling speed, and dieing alot, go pure int
if u like a little slower paced leveling, but much less dieing, go pure str

My advice is become a STR fire glaive.
Put all points into STR, and level up fire and lightning and hueksal.
Look for a str glaive guid in the guides and tutorials section

INT Hybrid Spear. A lot of fun really. You die a lot against high lvl mobs in numbers but can nuke out mobs and tank some others. Best of both worlds maybe.
My build isn't quite like that one but close.
I find the hardest part is that you have to spend a lot for weapons as spears are popular thus overpriced.
I made some early mistakes but nothing I can't delevel back.
I think it comes down to what you want out of your play experience. Do you want to 1 hit everything with your weapon or throw fire/lighting at stuff or do a little of both.
It's a game all in all. Make a character you like to play and fits your personal style and enjoy it.

Yeah I agree with most posters above...
Go Pure STR Fire Glaive...
Tank like hell... Deal damage like hell. Perfect beginner build.
But - I do also agree with _ajax_ ... make your own character your OWN!!! By that... add a flavour of Ripper76 to the build.
Much more rewarding than following a textbook, imho.
EDIT: Yeah, yeah, yeah... but don't flop the build, also!

Yep, I will do so Soulhaitetsu. I might make a different character a bit later, but following the text base build will give me alittle insight on what to do, so I can design my own.
But no doubt a bit of me will be thrown into the mix.
Thank you all for the help. This so wonderful to be lost and get so much knowledge and guidance.

Check out the quick builds under general guides, pick one you like, and then go down to strength or intelligence and you can read in more detail. Saves you from starting over.

One weapon, Glaive, you build up.
