What would you guys say is the best weapon type/armor type combination?

It's usually agreed upon that Pure STRs wear Garments, both to supplement their lack of Magical Defense, and because the 20% MP Reduction is great for their low MP pool. The 20% Movement Speed increase also doesn't hurt.
Pure INTs can become quite a controversial topic - in Garment, they become butter to STR-heavy builds, but they save quite a large amount of pots with the 20% MP Reduction. It's generally agreed upon that Armor / Protector is the better choice for PvP, but, atleast on my server, most INT-heavy builds are running around in Garment anyways. I can't say that I blame them - INT builds absolutely chew up MP, and 20% can save quite a bit of money in pots themselves, not to mention that, being so fragile, a movement speed increase can give them the chance to run away from their enemy that might be decked out in Armor, which will make them slower, of course.

What build are you, specifically? It'd be easier to address your question if you told us.

I agree with that. Pure Strength with Garment is a good combination (Which I use). A lot of people would debate the fact weither Armor, or garment is better in PvP though. It completely depends on your build too.

actually, i don't really have a build yet... i started playing little more than a week... and right now i'm reading up all the guides on builds and stuff before the Euro expansion opens so i know what i'm gonna be working at. right now, a type of hybrid seems to pique me. maybe a healer/nuker with 3str:2int or 5str:2int and 80light/80force/bicheon/60cold? and if that's any good of a build, i'm thinking garments with blade would a good set of equipment.

yea I see a lot of int characters in garm these days.

Str should always wear garment. Int, well if you wear armor you'll get owned by other int but if you wear garms you'll get hit hard by str.
