need question about upgrading weapon

hello guys i finally upgrade my weapon to +3, however if i fail to upgrade to the next plus, will my weapon back to 0? or it will stay to +3
will go to +0 if fails.
if you go over +4 and put astral from item mall on it, it will drop
to +4 as minimum.
