Farming question

When farming you have to have a 'level gap' right? Well what exactly is the gap supposed to be in between? Your main mastery(sword, spear, archer) gapping your level? Or both main mastery and force mastery(fire cold,etc.) gapping your level?
Also when you're in a guild, how can you contribute 'guild points' and what are the things that you can do to help the guild?
